Crown Breeds formulation lab

Tallow balm worksheet (ml math, batch review, production) and a guided carrier / EO builder — switch tools below.

Soap calculators will be added as separate entries later.

1 Setup & controls

Choose recipe architecture first (balanced 58/8/11/13/6 vs legacy jojoba master). Then carriers, tallow load (legacy), vitamin E, and face/body EO tier.

Formulation controls
Include antioxidant (0.3–0.5% of batch)

Prevents oxidation of unsaturated oils and improves shelf stability.

Balanced structure (target % of nominal batch)

Tallow 58% · Beeswax 8% · Jojoba 11% · Carrier A 13% · Carrier B 6% · Vit E 0.4% · EO 1% (face) / 2% (body). Tallow up for structure in warm climates; beeswax up for heat stability; jojoba trimmed (still effective) with A lifted to keep carrier benefit. B and Vit E unchanged. Total lands around ~97.4% face / ~98.4% body before the usual negligible rounding buffer — normal in cosmetic formulation. Whip while the blend sets to reduce grain.

Nominal batch scale = jojoba ÷ 0.11. Vit E uses your concentration % of actual total (after EO); live table shows true %.

2 Formulation worksheet

Source from jojoba or tallow. Balanced mode fixes carrier splits and EO % of nominal batch; legacy mode uses nJoJo ÷ 2 and A÷B potency.

EO dilution base jojoba anchors EO % · face ×2.5 · body ×3.8 —%
Jojoba oil source nJoJo — master variable
Wax ester that mirrors skin's own sebum. Absorbs clean with no residue — the anchor every other ingredient scales from.
ml
Essential oils 1% — face safe nJoJo ÷ 5
1% dilution — dermatologist-safe for facial and sensitive skin daily use. Jojoba volume is the direct reference for EO volume.
1 ml = 20 drops (standard)
Skin benefit carriers active compounds — scent stays behind EO —%
Ingredient A — major carrier nJoJo ÷ 2
Mild-scented, high-benefit oil — sesame, rosehip, marula. At half the jojoba volume it delivers real therapeutic value without competing with the EO fragrance.
ml
Ingredient B — minor carrier A ÷ 2
Potent oils — ratio scales with potency setting above.
ml
Vitamin E (tocopherol) antioxidant —%
Vitamin E % of total batch
Oil-soluble antioxidant; extend shelf life when unsaturated carriers are used.
ml
Tallow — main base —%
Beef tallow (J + A + B) × multiplier
Skin-analog lipids. Tallow load preset sets the multiplier on (J + A + B) — cream presets keep more liquid carriers for glide, EO clarity, and smoother set.
ml
Beeswax structural 8% nominal batch
Works with tallow for body and warm-ambient stability. Shown only in Balanced structure mode; ml tracks jojoba → nominal batch.

Production process

Reference: 60°C — risk of degrading actives and essential oils. <40°C — risk of poor mixing / grainy texture when incorporating tallow.
